A couple of points. If the company donates the item, they can deduct a percentage of the price they paid for it. If they throw it away, they can deduct the full retail value. An example: they pay $3.00 for an item. They donate it and they can deduct $1.50 on taxes. They throw it away, they can deduct the shelf price (maybe $14.00). Also, these people KNOW they are trespassing and committing retail theft. You can tell because they are sneaking around in the middle of the night.

Or state passed a law that all food must be donated to pantries. Be careful going in one because YOU will be arrested for the full value in the dumpster.

Paper goods like tablets, folders, envelopes, comp paper etc… pens, pencils, markers, etc… All stuff like that are so needed at schools and will happily take them. Don’t throw out, donate!!

Almost ALL, A L L retail outlets are by law and the taxcuts they get, they are supposed to make MAJOR donations to other stores and or returns for lesser retail outlets to sell damaged, not yet expired, and such goods. But does this happen, NOT REALLY. Most if the time things will not get donated, are just disposed of and in many cases stores would rather try to make in store sales down to the final says where they have to and must throw away items vs sending them to discount retail. One would argue that inventory specialist get after this but also NOT REALLY. This is something that should be argued heavily if america wants its economy back in a very big way and a much tougher way to battle inflation.

Why would Kirkland's care if people take stuff out of the dumpster? It's trash to them. If someone doesn't take it it goes to the landfill. Same with Old Navy? Why the heck do they cut their "trashed" clothes. What's it to them if someone get use out of what they throw away. They actually should be donating them to homeless shelters, abuse shelters, nursing homes, etc. I would have taken the other cabinet to either repair or cut up for farmhouse sign boards. Ensure is the unhealthiest meal replacement ever. If you love your seniors, don't give it to them. I know I'm 8 months late to this, so just saying for future reference. 🙂

Too bad they didn't donate that food to food pantries instead of going the easy route and throwing it away. People starving and they throw is away. So sad.
